Weapons wearing out didn't seem to be too much of a problem in SOC. This is another reason why you needed to have money. You weapons/armour were always wearing out requiring you to fix them or get new ones. I like the way COP handled the degradation of your weapons and armour better. However this tactic didn't seem to work in SOC if you traded for their money and killed them and searched them your stuff was not there. Also, one way quick way to build up your cash reserves in COP was to trade with a character for as much money as they had then kill them and take your stuff back. I also found that almost every character in SOC seemed to carry a wad of cash if you wanted to trade with them while in COP very few characters had much money. Artifacts weren't abundant and just lying around like they were in SOC.

You had to buy everything (including a very expensive SEVA suit that was required before you could go to the last area to complete the game) so you had to earn your money and it was harder to come by. The money system in this game seemed unnecessary. Everything else you found in stashes or picked up after a battle, i.e. The only thing I ever bought was some ammunition that I needed for specific weapons that weren't available in certain levels.

I also didn't get the concept of why you really needed money in SOC, because there was never any shortage of anything in SOC. In SOC I found the Plus/minus effects of Artifacts not that clear.

Knowing what the benefits of an Artifact were and what its detriment effect to your health were, seemed fairly easy to calculate in COP so that you knew how to balance the Artifacts that you carried. I also found the plus/minus system of Artifacts was better understood in COP. Artifacts in COP were mostly found in anomalies and you risk your life trying to retrieve them. Having played COP first I thought that their approach to Artifacts made a lot more sense. Shooting your way from one hallway to another got pretty boring pretty fast. I found that feeling getting worse in the Chernobyl NPP and beyond. It seemed to be turning into a mindless Call of Duty empty shooter game. By the time I made it to Pripyat in SOC I was finding that the game was becoming tedious. There is no doubt that COP was more polished and more importantly it knew when to end. Needless to say comparing a topnotch high-end, well developed game like Stalker to a juvenile and lazy game like Call of Duty doesn't rate a discussion.Īlthough I enjoyed both Stalker games I found that Shadow of Chernobyl seemed to drag on.

I purchased both SOC and Call of Duty 4 at the same time because Call of Duty 4 has a mission in Pripyat and I thought it would be interesting to try a mission in Pripyat from a different perspective.

Next played Metro Last Light then returned back to the Stalker series with SOC. I found COP to be fun, with a good, well developed story and really good graphics. Searched the Internet and blogs for reviews and found that Stalker: Call of Pripyat was rated higher than the first game Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl. After playing Metro 2033 was looking for a similar game and came across the Stalker series.
